Check out the front page of Metro section in the AJC, or listen for a story on the counts on WABE today between 4-5 pm. These counts were the first step in establishing a baseline of data to measure trends in Atlanta bicycling.

Part of what we do to help make it easier for you to cycle in and around Atlanta is to provide route and area maps, both as hardcopy, available at our office and our public event tables, and in digital form at our website maps and routes page. We have recently extended our map offerings with a couple of new additions.

CNN alternative commuting story features ABC and Director Rebecca Serna

CNN Video

CNN reporter T. J. Holmes reports on motivations behind the rising trend in alternative commuting in this video which features Atlanta Bicycle Campaign Executive Director, Rebecca Serna, and her morning commute into the ABC office. The report includes interviews with participants from the Downtown TMA, the Clean Air Campaign and alternative commuters who attended the ABC-sponsored BikeFest May 16.

You may have noticed that ABC is appearing more and more in local, national and even international media. Thanks to ABC Share the Road Project Manager Erica Crabb Moon for helping to arrange this and other coverage!

CNN iReport asks cyclists to "show us your commute"

League of American Bicyclists
ABC board member Byron Rushing has let us know that the League of American Bicyclists is encouraging its members - and presumably cyclists at large - to respond to this CNN iReport request to "show us your commute". In particular, if you live in a Bicycle Friendly Community, designated by the League of American Bicyclists, be sure to mention how bicycling has encouraged you to fight gas prices or to improve your physical and mental well-being. Thanks, Byron!

"Every picture tells a story, don't it?"

"Every picture tells a story, don't it?"

Rod Stewart was right about pictures and stories, and this picture tells the story of hundreds of cyclists who have been needlessly injured - sometimes killed - because of improperly installed storm grates. This particular grate hazard, at the corner of Carroll and Gaskill Streets in Cabbagetown, a historic Atlanta neighborhood, was documented by Andrew Hebert during the May 2008 ABC Fun Ride. (Thanks, Andrew!)

Ride of Silence 2008 ride start in Piedmont Park

Ride of Silence 2008 ride start in Piedmont Park

Thanks to the organizing efforts of Maigh Houlihan with the assistance of Jett Marks, Atlanta's installment of the 2008 international Ride of Silence drew almost three dozen participants yesterday. Jett is pictured here near the center of a panorama (stitched from 9 individual photographs) speaking to the assembled group at the Charles Allen Drive entrance to Piedmont Park as he and others took turns reflecting on cycling comrades who had been killed or injured on public roadways.
