board of directors

Pam Jacobson

Pam rediscovered bicycling as an adult through a colleague who introduced her to mountain biking. That led to bike commuting and recreational riding – and the recognition that the Atlanta region needed bike advocates to improve riding conditions.

She has served on the Board of Directors since 1999, and is currently Board President. Pam  has been a tireless volunteer over and above her Board duties, serving as the organization’s graphic designer, leader of the ABC Fun Ride, organizer of the 10th Anniversary party, and BUG leader.

Atiba Mbiwan joined the ABC Board of Directors in 2008 after being a member and supporter for many years. His love for cycling began in 1970 when he started delivering newspapers on a bike in his hometown of Jamaica, Queens. For the past 14 years, “Coach Atiba” has led the Bike Ride Across Georgia Dream Team in the annual trek across the state, helping more than 125 middle school youth complete the ride with the assistance of adult mentors.

Atiba serves as the Associate Director of The Zeist Foundation, a family foundation based in Atlanta that supports nonprofits serving children and youth in the areas of Education, Arts & Culture and Health & Human Services. Prior to joining The Zeist Foundation, Atiba served as the Program Officer responsible for education grantmaking at the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation from 2001-2005.

Jim helped form the Gwinnett Bicycle Users Group, BikeGwinnett, in 1997, and has since worked with the Gwinnett DOT in developing a comprehensive policy for bicycle accommodation. Rachael Spiewak

Rachael Spiewak directs Sopo Bicycle Cooperative, Atlanta's nonprofit community bicycle repair shop.

Rachael came to Atlanta in 1999 to pursue an education in cultural anthropology at Emory University. Assigned to study a local sustainable development project, she found herself as a researcher, and later, a volunteer and board member of Decatur Yellow Bikes. As the only volunteer without a bicycle, she was given Adopt-A-Bike number 10 (which appeared to be a 1970s Fuji Mixte). Later, she was awarded a University grant to research community bicycle programing in Copenhagen, Denmark.

After graduating from Emory, Rachael worked briefly as the Girls Bike Club Leader for the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign. She returned to school to pursue a master of social work degree at Georgia State University. During her graduate studies, she and her friends founded Sopo, which is where you can find her and get a little help with your bicycle repairs every Tuesday and Thursday night and Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
