Explore group cycling - and the city - with the ABC Fun Ride
As Pam and Ira Jacobson, co-leaders of the monthly ABC Fun Ride, declare, "the motto of this ride is fun for everyone!" If you're new to group riding or just new to Atlanta, this is the ride for you. Of course, it's a favorite with old hands who enjoy the opportunity to pedal at a leisurely pace and schmooze. Take a look at this 10-mile route map and you'll see that it takes you on a tour of scenic intown neighborhoods and important historical sites.
Pam will shepherd you on this ride, making sure that we regroup as needed and stay on course. Ira, the designated ride border collie, will zip back and forth, helping with any problems that arise. Marc Merlin typically rides sweep to make sure that everyone gets back to ride start safe and sound.
Designed for beginning cyclists, those new to group riding, or the cyclist who is looking for a socially oriented jaunt through our intown neighborhoods. Experienced riders will share knowledge and answer questions to help newcomers feel more comfortable riding with a group on the streets of Atlanta. This is a slow-paced ride - averaging around 10 mph - around 10 miles in length. Faster riders may race up hills - but will wait for the group at the top.
The Fun Ride is held regularly on the third Sunday of the month 10:30 a.m. and meets in Little Five Points near the corner of Euclid and Moreland Avenues in front of the Village Coffee Shop (Google map). Helmets are required. No ride if raining.
