Speak up! Citizen input to state transportation plan

GA Traffic

As we approach the 2009 legislative session hoping for real action on our state and region's many transportation challenges, Governor Purdue is asking for citizen input on the state's strategic plan for transportation. Please complete the survey to urge Governor Perdue’s transportation planning team to invest in bicycle, pedestrian, and transit.

This survey is being conducted by a transportation partnership called Investing in Tomorrow’s Transportation Today, or IT3, that brings together the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA), the General Assembly, local partners and the executive branch to develop strategies to improve transportation in Georgia.

This strategic planning process provides Georgians with another opportunity to speak out in favor of alternatives to car travel for cleaner air and better quality of life.

While metro Atlanta residents suffer the longest, most unhealthy commutes in the state, many of Georgia’s mid-sized cities also face growing problems with traffic congestion and poor air quality. In this year’s State of the Air Report published by the American Lung Association, Augusta, Columbus, Macon and Rome joined the metro Atlanta area on the list of the 25 worst U.S. cities for year-round fine particle pollution.

Show your support for smart, sustainable solutions to congestion, high gas prices and unhealthy air by commenting online or attending one of the IT3 listening sessions around the state.

Complete an online survey by going to www.it3.ga.gov/Pages/Public.aspx.

There are two questions that enable you to list transit, bike paths and sidewalks as solutions to congestion. You may also select “specify your own value” and type in a personal response to the two questions about congestion.
