Come out for Courteous Mass this Friday (6 pm at Woodruff Park)
Volunteer opportunities
Here at the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign, we are a small nonprofit that relies on our volunteers to help make things happen! You can get involved at many levels and make a short or long-term commitment. Read more to learn about your options, then contact volunteer services for more information.
1. Tabling
Talking to people interested in biking at festivals and other events - what could be easier? Sign up by clicking on the event of your choice, to the right, under Volunteer Opportunities.
2. Committees
Committees of the board include PR and Event Planning, Education and Advocacy, Development (Membership and Fundraising), and Finance. We welcome ABC members to serve on any committee - you don't have to be on the board!
3. Signature Rides
Our two annual rides are the 3 Feet Share the Road Challenge (Labor Day 2008), and the BeltLine Bike Tour (April 19, 2009). These take a lot of coordination to plan and execute, and we welcome your helping hands.
4. Projects
The list of ABC projects is long, and we are short-staffed. You can help make biking better by taking one of these on, with our help, of course! The project list may be viewed here.
5. Be a Bike Buddy
Are you an experienced, friendly, and patient cyclist who wants to share your knowledge with others? Volunteer to be a Bike Buddy and we'll match you with someone in need! This program will launch summer of 2009.
6. Volunteer at the ABC office
Help out with our many projects projects. Try it on for size and see if you find your niche. You can choose your own hours -- this option is for folks who can commit at least two hours at a time.
7. Become a Licensed Cycling Instructor
LCIs, as they are known, take a course through the League of American Bicyclists to get trained on how to teach the Road I class, now known at ABC as Confident City Cycling. We plan to offer a training session this summer, or visit bikeleague.org to sign up for training today. Trainings take place all over the United States and are a great excuse to travel. Once you're certified, you can start a rewarding role as a volunteer safe cycling instructor. ABC will pay your renewal fees each year as a small thank you for your efforts.
