Share your love of biking

We're looking for a few good volunteers for two upcoming events. 1) Friday, July 11: Atlantic Station is holding an "Alternative Car Show" and apparently, the bicycle is an alternative car. 2) July 24th: Speak to a boys' camp on bike safety. Contact us if you can volunteer to spread the word about bicycling at either of these events.

Initial results from ABC's first-ever bicycle counts conducted last week are in, and they're being covered in the local news. Check out the front page of Metro section in the AJC, or listen for a story on the counts on WABE today between 4-5 pm. These counts were the first step in establishing a baseline of data to measure trends in Atlanta bicycling.

Courteous Mass July 11

in

On Friday, July 11, cyclists will meet at Woodruff Park for a different kind of mass - Courteous Mass. Courteous Mass differs from Critical Mass in that it follows a planned route and all traffic laws. Courteous Mass is intended to demonstrate support for better bike facilities and safer traffic conditions, and is also a great opportunity for less-experienced cyclists to try riding on the streets and to just have fun. If you believe in a balanced transportation policy, join us!

Bike riders and bike supporters! If you share our vision that the bicycle has an important role to play in the future of Atlanta's transportation system, mark Saturday, July 19th on your calendars. That Saturday from 10-12 ABC and the Connect Atlanta team will present the proposed Bicycle Network, drafted over months of public input to the Connect Atlanta Plan, for your review. This is your chance to learn about the proposed bicycle network and to give planners and city officials your feedback.

ABC bicyclist count update

ABC's (and Atlanta's) first bicyclist count will take place this week and next, the first of a biannual data gathering effort that will help us chart gains in the bicycling population.

While we can't tell you exactly where it's happening (that would skew the results), if you do spot an ABC counter, please stop to fill out a brief survey that will help us better understand bicycle transportation patterns and needs.

We have recently extended our map offerings with a couple of new additions.

Let me count the ways: ABC plans bicycle counts

With gas prices rising and environmental awareness growing, it's no surprise we're seeing more people riding bicycles across Atlanta. But how many more? We were asked this question so often that we finally decided it was time to come up with some answers.
