11.22 Bike Valet for "The Lighting of Atlantic Station"
Location
They liked us so much the first time, Atlantic Station Access and Mobility Program (ASAP+) is bringing us back to provide a bicycle valet service for "The Lighting of Atlantic Station" tree lighting celebration. (http://www.atlanticstation.com/events.php#Anchor-November-23240) Please help us provide quick and secure bike parking to this event. We'll be working with the ASAP+ folks to get a prominent spot for the bike valet service and to advertise the service before and at the event. We expect the bike valet service to gain momentum as people see us at more events. We want festival-goers to expect easy bike parking at every event they attend.
I'd like to get volunteers in three-hour blocks, noon to 3pm, 3 to 6pm, and 6 to 9pm. Please sign up for one or more of these time blocks.
Those who volunteered for the bike valet service for Taste of Atlanta had a great time, so sign up and help out!
11.22 - Light up the Night...on Bikes!
Location
Bike Light Up the Night - Bike Light Giveway 2008
Saturday, November 22nd
East Atlanta (Sopo) and Atlantic Station
Time: approximately 3:30-5:30 at Sopo
Ride leaves from Sopo at 5:30 for Atlantic Station, where we'll give away the remainder.
Lighting starts at 7:30 pm
On Saturday, November 22nd ABC volunteers and staff will give away bike lights to those who don't have access to them. Bicycle lights are such an important safety item we want everyone to have them, especially during the winter months when it gets dark sooner.
REI and Free Flite Bicycles have generously donated bike lights, and we'll be giving away ABC 3 feet blinkies as well.
Giveway locations will include
1. Sopo Bicycle Coop in East Atlanta Village
2. Atlantic Station (at location of bike valet service, to coordinate with Lighting of Atlantic Station)
3. Anywhere along the way we see cyclists riding blind!
Please sign up to help distribute and install lights, then participate in the ride along to demonstrate how necessary they are for nighttime riding.
We're also going to host the inventor of the SpeedVest, Brady - in from out of town to help ABC educate drivers and cyclists alike on the importance of awareness and visibility for bike safety. Check out his invention (you'll have to make your own for now if you want one) at speedvest.com.
This event will include a well-lit ride (lighting by you, our volunteers, on your own bikes) to demonstrate how bicycles should look at night. Get creative!
